In any space-time with magnetic mass, a quantization of energy necessarily arises from the fact that wave functions must be single-valued; this is equivalent to a requirement that time be identified with a period that is determined by the magnetic mass. Limits are presently defined for this possible magnetic mass. The quantization condition invoked emerges only from the asymptotic form of the fields, and is entirely insensitive to the precise details of the nature of the sources, or the exact nature of the theory of gravity at short distances, where general relativity may be expected to break down.
