It is shown that the observed heights at which faint photographic
meteors disappear are in good agreement with the hypothesis of
quasi-continuous fragmentation of dense stony meteoroids. However, they
are inconsistent with hypotheses with very loose meteroids or dense
stony meteroids which do not fragment.
