The influence of gravitational light deflection by compact objects within a foreground galaxy on the apparent surface number density of distant sources around it is considered. In contrast to previous work, the effects of finite source extent, the galactic gravitational field at the location of the minilenses, and the simultaneous influence of several stars on the light beam are taken into account. The resulting number density enhancement depends sensitively on the source size and the shape of the intrinsic luminosity function of the sources. Although the number density of quasars around galaxies can be increased significantly, a large sample of galaxies has to be explored to isolate this effect from statistical noise. The applicability of these calculations to the recently discovered gravitational lens system 2237 + 0305 is discussed.
