Using published surface photometry from three separate sources for ˜70 luminous elliptical galaxies, the author derives the following relation between absolute blue magnitude (MB) and effective radii (re) for luminous ellipticals (MB ⪉ -20.5 for H0 = 50 km s-1Mpc-1): MB = 2.06 log re-19.77. The slope is similar to that previously derived by Kormendy. This relation should be useful for modeling the host galaxies of quasars and BL Lac objects. The derived slope shows that the MB-log re relation can be used to map nonuniformities in the Hubble flow.
