A chemical analysis of the ejecta from SN 1987A based on a study of the emission lines is presented. Our main conclusions are: (1) the FWHM of the emission lines in the optical and near infrared are comparable with those observed in γ-ray lines and in the far infrared; (2) the Ca/fe and Mg/Fe elemental ratios are consistent with the solar values; (3) the iron mass estimated from the optical lines agrees with the value derived from the far-infrared data; (4) the O/Fe ratio is higher by a factor of 3 than the solar value, suggesting a contribution to the oxygen enrichment of the LMC.
