Bars are a common feature in simulations of galaxy formation of isolated collapsing systems initially composed of dark matter and gas. They appear at several wavelengths until 16 Gyr, the final time of our runs. Dust seriously affects their luminosity, especially in the shorter wavelength spectral range. In more massive systems, showing early-type morphologies and dynamical properties, recent star formation occurs in bars which entail ~42% of their total B luminosity. However such 'intrinsic' bars are strongly affected by dust which reduces their observed B luminosity to ~20% of the total observed, by changing their morphology. In the less massive systems this fraction amounts to only ~ 6% so that bar survives to dust effect.
