Main statistical properties of matter density fields predicted by standard models of galaxy formation are discussed with particular emphasis on the statistical interpretation of the Harrison Zeldovich (H Z) tail of the matter power spectrum. The problem of sampling a Gaussian density field with H Z tail is considered and some observational implications of these results are discussed.
