Basic hydrodynamical and magnetohydrodynamical processes likely to operate in planetary nebulae are reviewed, beginning from the simplest one-dimensional interaction of two supersonic gaseous streams. The review is preceded by a brief description of the most puzzling features observed in some nebulae, whose origin cannot be explained within the standard scenario of interacting stellar winds.
