The observations obtained from an extensive study of the Centaurus cluster of galaxies are presented and described. Redshifts for 259 galaxies in the region were measured from spectral scans obtained with the Anglo-Australian Telescope. Two-band photographic photometry (G: IIIa-J+GG 455, F: IIIa-F+RG 630) for 319 galaxies brighter than G(26.5) = 17.5 mag was measured from UK Schmidt-Telescope plates. The photographic photometry was calibrated from electronography and published aperture photometry and has an accuracy of about + or - 0.07 mag. Within 1 deg of the cluster center the redshift sample is essentially complete for galaxies brighter than G(26.5) = 16.5 mag. An extensive catalog of galaxies in the region giving positions, magnitudes, morphological types, redshifts, and other parameters is given.
