The uvby and VRI observations of ɛ Aur during the ingress and
early totality phases obtained at the McDonald Observatory are analysed.
The light and colour variations of ɛ Aur during the 1982 - 1984
eclipse are compared with those found during the 1955 - 1957 eclipse.
