It is investigated whether the two groups of galaxies containing NGC 55 and NGC 2403, respectively, form rings or not. It is shown that both rings are probably due to chance projections. Statistical methods are used for the NGC 2403-group. The area around the south galactic pole has been searched (in part semiautomatically) for nearby dwarf galaxies physically related to NGC 55, and nine new candidates have been found. These galaxies are listed and described. Semiautomated surveys methods versus manual ones are discussed.
