Color magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of V vs B-V, V-R, R-I, V-I, and B-I are constructed from 48 BVRI CCD frames obtained with the 1.54-m Danish La Silla ESO telescope of stars found in a single 4 x 2.5 arcmin field of the globular cluster NGC 2298. From the CMDs, the main sequence turnoff from all color indices is found to be at V(TO) = 19.50 + or - 0.1, with the color turnoffs at B-V = 0.60 + or - 0.02, V-R = 0.27 + or 0.03, R-I = 0.39 + or - 0.03, V-I = 0.71 + or - 0.03, and B-I = 1.30 + or - 0.03. Results show a magnitude difference between the turnoff and the horizontal branch for all CMDs of 3.4 + or - 0.2, in agreement with previous results (Sandage, 1982). An age of 17 + or - 1.5 Gyr is deduced for NGC 2298, implying that both the metallicity content and the reddening values may be larger than previously estimated, and a distance to the cluster of 9.4 kpc is derived, corresponding to a galactic center of 15.4 kpc if R(0) = 9 kpc.
