The detailed cooling processes in postshock gas are examined in the context of the theory of one-dimensional pancake collapses. What pancake collapses reveal and fail to reveal about the relative clustering of baryons and colisionless dark matter particles (CDMPs) is examined. Problems concerning the relative clustering of baryons and CDMPs and concerning the application of detailed understanding of cooling processes to other contexts are addressed.
