The authors report the discovery that the cool white dwarf L 870-2 is a double-lined spectroscopic binary composed of a detached pair of DA white dwarfs. A time series of echelle spectra centered on the Hα absorption lines was obtained in 1987 November with the MMT. The data are used to determine the orbital and stellar parameters. The estimated orbital period of the system is P = 1.55578 days, the estimated radial velocity semiamplitude for each component is K1 = 77.6 km s-1 and K2 = 69.6 km s-1, and the orbital separation is between 4.53 and 8.06 R_sun;. It is argued that the surface gravities and masses of the stars are significantly smaller than the averages for DA white dwarfs.
