Arguments for the proton heating of the optical emission region in the
flares of UV Ceti-type stars are given. The electron temperature and
number density of atoms in this region are evaluated: T ≅ 7000 -
13000K and nH ≅ 1016cm-3 at an
proton energy of E ≅ 10 MeV.
