The detection of the J = 1 - 0 and 2 - 1 lines of CO toward the OH emitting proto planetary nebula OH 0.9+1.3 is reported. This is the first time that CO emission from a stellar object as far as the Galactic center has been observed. The CO (2 - 1) line is spatially unresolved when observed with a 13" beam. From the CO data, the mass loss rate is determined to be 3×10-5M_sun;yr-1. This value agrees reasonably well with the outflow rate determined from OH. Perspectives for future work are discussed.
