Classical nucleation theory is extended to allow for arbitrary chemical
reactions in the nucleation and growth process. The appropriate
equations describing nucleation and grain growth including chemical
reactions and chemical sputtering are derived and applied to the
formation of carbon grains by reactions with acetylene and hydrogen.
