The present paper deals essentially with the results of an investigation of the Venusian atmosphere by means of scanning spectrophotometers onboard Venera spacecraft. The principal objectives of the experiment were to study the spectral composition of scattered solar radiation to obtain quantitative estimates of the atmospheric content of matter (such as water) characterized by strong absorption bands, to study the vertical structure of the Venusian atmosphere and the horizontal inhomogeneity of the cloud layer, and to investigate the atmospheric energy balance.
