A fine analysis of nine southern supergiants of spectral types F through K, including the bright Cepheid variable Car, is presented. The average metal-to-hydrogen ratio is found to be twice the solar value. No essential differences are found between the nonvariable stars and the Cepheid variable. In an initial attempt to determine the spatial distribution of abundances within the local region of the sun (distances less than 0.5 kpc), the abundances of this study are combined with abundances from previous studies. The data are consistent with a homogeneous distribution of metallicity in supergiants within 0.5 kpc of the sun.
