Relative proper motions with typical standard errors approximately equal to + or - 0.020 arcsec/century have been measured for 266 stars in the region of M3, yielding an excellent segregation of cluster members from the field stars. The cluster membership status of several variable stars and UV-bright stars is discussed. The internal proper motion dispersion has been detected and is isotropic from approximately 4 core radii out to approximately 15 core radii and probably anisotropic beyond approximately 15 core radii, in agreement with the best dynamical models. Comparison with radial velocity data yields the first astrometric distance to a globular cluster. A largely unsuccessful attempt is made to derive the absolute proper motion of the cluster.
