The experimental dependence of AE indexes on the polar angle of the IMF theta is compared with daytime-reconnection models. It is shown that the angular dependence AE(theta), in which the presence of a critical angle theta(cr) = 55 deg, is pronounced, can best be described by the Hill function. The agreement can be improved via the modification of the model by including the partial penetration of the IMF through the magnetopause in the vicinity of the reconnection line.
