An analysis using Gegenbauer's orthogonal polynomials revealed that changes can be observed in the differential rotation of solar background magnetic fields which are similar to those described in connection with the Doppler measurements of solar differential rotation (Snodgrass and Howard, 1985). These changes can be interpreted as manifestations of low modes of stationary torsional waves. These waves have wave numbers of 0, 1/2, and 1 on a hemisphere.
