Intermediate MBHs (IMBHs) are becoming of increasing interest in astrophysics. The inspiral of IMBHs onto MBHs in galactic nuclei is a fascinating possibility, carrying a number of interesting observational and theoretical implications. I present a hybrid model for the inspiraling of an IMBH-MBH binary embedded in a power-law stellar cusp. The results concerning the binary shrinking and the cusp evolution are in good agreement with recent N-body simulations. The formalism is finally applied to the inspiral of an IMBH onto SgrA*, in the attempt of explaining the recently observed hyper-velocity stars in the Milky Way halo.
