Observational data concerning the cD galaxies available in the literature are examined from the viewpoint of a model where these galaxies are considered to be generators of other cluster galaxies. Ejection of matter portions is proposed as the main mechanism of galaxy generation. Known set of correlations revealed for cD galaxies, included the galaxy halo luminosity vs. cluster luminosity relation, Faber-Jackson relation breach for these galaxies, inevitability of their location in the local maxima of galaxies' density, constancy of the main body luminosity etc are considered to support this mechanism. We argue that the model based on the hypothesis of a consecutive fragmentation of the matter gives a self-consistent way to interpret the observational data.
