Over the past few years very high energy gamma-ray astronomy has emerged as a truly observational discipline with many TeV gamma-ray sources representing a large variety of galactic and extragalactic source populations. I will highlight the recent discoveries in the field and discuss the astrophysical and cosmological implications of these results with an emphasis on high energy phenomena in relativistic winds and jets related to pulsars and black holes, as well as gamma-ray emission from supernova remnants in the context of origin of Galactic Cosmic Rays.
