Often during an inquiry activity, students may have trouble understanding the purpose or goals of each activity phase and may subsequently be hindered in achieving the inquiry activity"s goals. We have developed a tool called "metamoments" to address this problem and to help make the goals of the inquiry activity more attainable. Metamoments are brief, student-driven discussions on ideas and definitions of success at key phases of the inquiry activity. In this paper, we discuss their implementation, advantages, disadvantages, and realizations.
