This book marshals research and interviews to recount the discovery of planets orbiting stars other than the sun. The discoveries of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are reviewed along with the search for Planet X. The discovery of dust rings around stars such as Vega and Epsilon Eridani and the search for dark stars like brown dwarfs is examined. The detection of the first extrasolar planets circling pulsars is discussed. The formation of gas giant planets like Jupiter is described along with the detection of a gas giant planet around 51 Pegasi. The prospects for the discovery of more extrasolar planets and the possibility of interstellar flight to visit them are addressed.
