Internal stellar structure for stars other than the Sun can only be studied in detail by means of well-detached double-lined eccentric eclipsing binaries. In this case we can determine accurate masses and radii for the component stars and evaluate the quadrupole distortion produced by rotation and tides, leading to the internal stellar density concentration. A review of the topic is presented together with new developments and problems identified. Furthermore, the measurement of the relativistic term in the apsidal motion is also critically assessed.
