We present two double gravitational lens scenarios for the multiply imaged system 2016+112 A, B, C, in the light of recent high-resolution radio observations, which have revealed complex structure in the dominant radio-emitting region C. It is argued from modelling considerations that the presence of a second lensing mass in the vicinity of C is necessary. The models in this paper therefore involve a high-redshift lens in region C, which is itself singly imaged by the foreground principal lens at D. There is a strong possibility that features associated with the flat-spectrum component C_1 in region C are also gravitational mirages, and both our models attribute a major fraction of emission from region C to lensed images. Distinctive predictions are presented, by means of which future observations may establish (a) whether or not C_1 is lensed, and (b) which of the two double-lens scenarios is applicable to this system.
