The 'local' stability of Zweibel (1981) is extended, through the application of an analysis developed by Schindler et al. (1983) and Hood (1983), to include the previously neglected magnetic tension terms. It is noted that, for a sufficiently small value of the parameter 2beta(H), a particular magnetohydrostatic field is stable in contradiction to the previous 'local' analysis. It is stressed that a local analysis employed for the prediction of instability cannot neglect any positive terms in the energy integrals.
