Plots of sin l versus vl (where l is galactic longitude and vl line-of-sight velocity) have been used with considerable success for analysing the kinematics of galactic motion, and in particular for deriving rotation curves from data in the first and fourth quadrants of galactic longitude. The authors present an extension of this procedure that can be used in the second and third quadrants too, and illustrate the method by analysing 21-cm data to give the kinematics of the inner edge of the 'molecular ring', the tangent-point curves, and in particular the outer envelope of the 21-cm disc.
