The density-mass diagram in the study of the evolution of interstellar clouds is discussed. Three different forms of the diagram are noted. Using the polytrope model, the mean density, total mass, surface conditions (pressure and temperature) and the polytropic index are used as the main model parameters. The properties of the models under the critical state of gravitational instability and their behavior on the density-mass diagram are discussed.
