The hypothesis is suggested that the nuclear gamma-ray lines at 1.6 MeV and 4.4 MeV from the radio galaxy Cen A are produced in the excitation of nuclei by protons in a high-temperature plasma behind the fronts of shock waves formed as the result of a rapid energy release (explosion) in the nucleus of the galaxy. The results of calculations of the luminosity in the 4.4-MeV line formed due to excitation of carbon nuclei 12C by protons behind the shock front in the nucleus of the active galaxy for different values of the energy of explosion and the density of gas in the nucleus are presented. It is shown that this mechanism of the excitation of nuclear lines allows to explain the luminosity of Cen A in the 1.6-MeV and 4.4-MeV lines.
