Using the Wyoming 2.3 m telescope, photoelectric UBV surface photometry of NGC 205, a small peculiar elliptical companion galaxy to M31, has been obtained. The optical depth, luminosity distance into the galaxy, density, and mass have been determined for two absorption regions in the vicinity of the nucleus. The absolute V magnitude and the (U-B) and (B-V) colors were found for the three brightest young star clusters in the galaxy. Models were constructed which contain LMC-type OB supergiants, red supergiants, and a suitable main sequence. The magnitudes and colors of the model clusters match the observed magnitudes and colors of the young NGC 205 clusters, which are also very similar to the observed magnitudes and colors of open clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud. It is argued that dwarf elliptical galaxies like NGC 205 may appear to undergo episodes of star formation followed by quiescent periods during which there are no young stars present.
