Contopoulos (1983) has studied the onset of a large degree of stochasticity in the motions of stars in galaxies. The present investigation is concerned with a continuation of this study. Attention is given to the role of the various resonances which produce bifurcations, or gaps, in barred galaxies as the amplitude of the bar is varied, and, more generally, as the bar model is varied. It is found that the appearance of one or of a finite number of gaps is not sufficient to produce stochasticity. Models with gaps which are completely integrable are shown. There are also models of integrable systems with an infinity of bifurcations. However, in general, the appearance of an infinity of gaps and bifurcations provides stochasticity if the amplitude of the bar is large enough so that the various resonances can interact.
