The remarkable radio brightening of HM Sge over the period 1977 - 80 is
documented at a number of frequencies. The data, together with an
angular size measurement obtained at the VLA, are used to assess various
models of the radio-emitting region. Simple models are not compatible
with both the radio data and the assumed luminosity distance.
