A giant molecular complex is detected in the irregular galaxy NGC 3077. The complex, located at the nucleus of the galaxy, has a full width to half power (FWHP) size of about 320 pc and a mass of approximately 10 to the 7th solar masses. It is first such object ever mapped in a galaxy less luminous and massive than the LMC. Its size and mass appear to be larger than those of the largest complexes in the galactic disk and it is suggested that the formation of the molecular complex is a result of the tidal interaction between M81 and NGC 3077.
