The physical conditions in the magnetospheres of several pulsars were investigated with particular attention given to the pulsar P 0531. Attention is given to energy storage, magnetospheric transparence, plasma temperature, and mechanisms for magnetospheric heating and energy transfer. It is concluded that for P 0531 the magnetospheric plasma is kept in a hot state due to Joule heating caused by drift currents. In the case of the other pulsars examined (P 2043 and P 1706), the initial region of the magnetosphere is heated by stellar radiation, while the remainder (the main part) is heated by drift currents.
