The letter reports that the position of the nearby irregular galaxy discovered by Simonson (1975) coincides with that of an unidentified gamma-ray source detected near the Crab Nebula. Analysis of the estimated parameters of Simonson's galaxy shows that if this galaxy is the gamma-ray source, it should contain at least 10 times more gas than estimated from 21-cm data and the ratio of its cosmic-ray electrons to nuclei should be at least 300 times lower than in our Galaxy. It is concluded that either the coincidence between the positions of Simonson's galaxy and the unidentified gamma-ray source is fortuitous or the former is not a galaxy, but rather an object associated with a galactic gamma-ray source.
