The subject matter of particle astrophysics is defined and the principal problems considered are briefly reviewed. These include particle physics and cosmology, particle physics and the physics of stars, and high-energy astrophysics. The interdependence of these disciplines is illustrated by such problems as the nature of dark matter, the detection of neutrinos from the sun and from supernovae, and the presence of ultrahigh-energy gamma rays and neutrinos in charged cosmic rays.
