SOFIA, the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy [1], will provide a powerful capability for occultation astronomy. Its mobility and freedom from clouds will greatly increase the number of observable events and its large aperture and very low scintillation noise will provide excellent data. We developed HIPO, the High-speed Imaging Photometer for Occultations, to capitalize on SOFIA's capabilities.
