Space asteroseismology missions will be complemented by a network of ground-support observations. The possibilities offered by a combined spectroscopic and photometric approach to the study of delta Scuti stars are briefly reviewed. On the basis of the mature experience of the Merate group we show how it is possible to determine the rotational period of a pulsating star. A unique feature observed in the spectrum of X Cae is also presented.
