Titan has been observed with the 5-m Hale telescope at an effective wavelength of 1 mm. Adopting a value of 2700 km for the radius of Titan, a brightness temperature of 86 + or - 12 K is found at 1 mm. By a comparison of the results with previous measurements at longer wavelengths, it is concluded that the satellite surface is the source of the 1-mm radiation. Since the measured brightness temperature is close to the equilibrium temperature of a blackbody at the distance of Saturn, it is believed there is no significant greenhouse effect on Titan.
