Published photoelectric minima times for the W UMa-type eclipsing binary SW Lac from about 1952-1978 are subjected to period analysis. Neither the mass-exchange hypothesis of Lang and Vetesnik (1966) nor the apsidal-line-rotation hypothesis of Woodward (1956) is confirmed. The changes observed in the period of SW Lac are explained on the basis of a triple system arrayed around a fourth body. The orbital periods of the third and fourth bodies are computed as 19.67 and 70.25 years, respectively. The low masses estimated for these bodies (around 1 solar mass, depending on the angle of inclination) imply that they may be low-luminosity white dwarfs.
