A series of three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations are used here to study the interaction of cosmic jets with their surroundings. It is shown that an accurate picture of this interaction can be obtained only through the full three-dimensional treatment of the nonlinear problem. Jet-cloud interactions, even with optimal geometries, can deflect jets only in a transient manner, and in the process they drastically decelerate the jet. A cloud of 30 million solar masses is effectively destroyed by a jet of density 0.01 that of the cloud and velocity 3 x 10 to the 8th cm/s after about 50 million yrs. In this process the jet velocity is reduced by about a factor of 100. The relative wind acting upon a jet whose parent object is moving through a gas such as an intracluster medium can be effective in deflecting jets. If the jet is fully turbulent, this process is more efficient than previously supposed.
