In order to search for large-scale inhomogeneity in the one-dimensional spatial distribution of quasar's Ly-alpha absorption lines, a method based on Kolmogorov-Smirnoff statistics of the distribution of absorber pairs has been developed and applied to three dense, pencil-like samples of the Ly-alpha forest. The results show that for the most dense sample, the distribution of the Ly-alpha absorbers deviates from a uniform distribution at a significance level of 2-3 sigma, and that the discrepancy consists in a deficit of absorber pairs with separations in the range of 30-50/h Mpc. It is further found that the deficit of 30-50/h Mpc pairs is due at least partially to a periodic inhomogeneity with wavelengths of about 80/h Mpc.
