High-resolution (0.05-0.09 Å) profiles are presented of the interstellar 5780 Å diffuse band toward seven stars of low to moderate reddening. No fine structure is seen in these profiles that would indicate the diffuse band carrier is molecular gas. The correlation of diffuse band equivalent width with reddening suggests that E(B- V) of at least 0.14 is required before the 5780 Å feature appears.
