A study of the southern radio galaxy IC 5063 has been performed using telescopes of several Southern Hemisphere observatories. A lightly exposed blue plate of the galaxy shows a bright elliptically shaped nucleus and strong dust lanes throughout the otherwise smooth light distribution. Surface photometry of a red plate shows that the elliptical isophotes of the galaxy's inner region have an axial ratio of 0.55, while those of the outer region have 0.78, with no change in the position angle. It is concluded that the inner region is a disk inclined at an angle of 56 deg to the line of sight. The spectrum of the nucleus and disk is analyzed and found to contain high excitation emission lines from ions such as forbidden Ne 4 and He II and relative line intensities characteristic of Seyfert 2/narrow-line radio galaxies.
