Total flux density and linear polarization measurements obtained at frequencies of 4.8, 8.0 and 14.5 GHz are presented for 14 active extragalactic radio sources which have been observed to vary in total flux density by more than 50%. Observations at all three frequencies were obtained approximately weekly in the period from April 1977 through June 1980 with the University of Michigan 85-ft radio telescope. All except one of the sources (III Zw 2) are found to exhibit polarized radiation during flux density outbursts, and rapid and large-amplitude variations in polarization have been observed which indicate that the magnetic fields in the emitting regions must be well ordered. In addition, the sources 0607-157, 0727-115 and BL Lac are found to undergo monotonic changes in polarization position angle over ranges similar to the rotation previously reported for AO 0235+164. The observed variations support the hypothesis that repeated or prolonged particle injections arise from a single location in these objects, and are consistent with source models with relativistic jets directed near the line of sight.
