Line profiles from Hα to Hɛ are presented for 21 specially selected DA white dwarfs. Most of these previously appeared abnormal due to inconsistencies between photometric and spectroscopic data. Among them are the formerly suspected "true DAwk" stars which deviated strongly from the mean DA sequence in plots of hydrogen line equivalent width against color. Using the new data, however, only a few objects remain that significantly deviate from the mean DA sequence. They may be interpreted as having masses that are higher or lower than the average for a DA, though abundance effects cannot be completely ruled out from the observations.
One star with uncertain classification (LDS 455A) and one of Luyten's white dwarf candidates (LP 475-249 are identified as normal DA stars.
